Why Tactics?

Tactics form a big part of any wargame. Tactics are actions used to get something done, as in this case, beat your opponent. This is normally done by any means possible within specified rules to outsmart, and outplay your enemy. The better you are at using effective tactics will help make the game more interesting and more efficient, as wasting troops can slow the game down considerably, and overall, lose the fun and spirit of the game.

Before any real playing begins, tactics are used just in how your armies are set up. How you set up can affect your game from the very begginings. If you st any hard core troops (technically your hard hitting close combat participants) in the back, it will take too long for you to use them effectively. The same thing goes with setting heavy weapon troops right near to the enemy, also a bad use for them. Think of how each squad/vehicle/war machine fights on the table, and try to set them up to use them the best. Put hard core troops in areas that will seem to have the most "bloodshed" , while keeping the heavy weapons back, where they belong.When the game begins, you should try to base all of your moves on the scenario objective, such as if you are trying to take/ defend a building, try to make moves towards and around the objective, as heroic actions don't work elsewhere on the table when the enemy has the objective. One last basic and extremely important tactic is to be adaptable, as battle plans must change in nearly every battle.

Set up                                                                                                       When setting an army up, the one commanding the army should look for good scenery to hide in, or force the enemy around. Scenery can change the way a battle flows, beceuse even a small building or tree can block the line of sight for anyone, and is a good piece of terrain to set up behind. Use the terrain to anchor your flanks, as you can expect most enemies to flank you.

Battle                                                                                                          When fighting, look at every move you and your enemy makes. Determine which moves to attack, and which ones to defend. If the enemy is using one unit to lure your best troops out of cover, just so he can shoot them up, you should obviously not chase them. Have as much common sense and foresight to see excatly what the enemy is doing. Once again, if you are an attacker or defender, and there are objectives to a mission (besides annihalate the foe) such as take a building, focus every man in your army to it. If you are the defender, you have very little leeway on this choice. The attacker, however, can try and use decoys to draw bits of your force from the objective, in effect, weakening your defence. Any defender should be watching for this move. If you are the attacker and decoys don't work, get the decoys back on track, to help the bulk of the force take or complete your objective. Also, know when to take flight, and when to stay. If a particularily tough enemy is coming for even a small squad, have them waste even more time by having to chase them. This tactic is very effective in keeping units alive for even one more turn, and even gives you the chance to counter attack. Be careful of every move you make, because one mistake can lead to the destruction of your entire army.

Remember, these are just basic tactics that can be used in nearly any games.
